School Counseling Page

Claxton Elementary School is supported by one full-time school counselor who is available to assist students, parents, and staff. The counselor provides short-term individual counseling for students in Pre-K through fifth grade, focusing on goal setting informed by academic, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional data. She supports students and families during crisis and emergency situations and conducts classroom guidance lessons to promote student growth. When behavioral, social, or emotional concerns interfere with academic progress, she provides targeted small-group counseling as needed. The counselor collaborates closely with parents, teachers, and school administration, participates in Student Support Team meetings, and serves as the school’s 504 Plan coordinator. In addition, she supports school-wide attendance goals and initiatives and connects families with outside resources when additional support is needed.
