With a heavy heart, the Evans County Charter School System announces the passing of Julie Sikes, a beloved teacher and instructional coach at Claxton High School. Ms. Sikes had a profound impact on everyone she met and loved her students fiercely. The district has provided additional counselors, pastors, and support staff to the students and faculty at CHS to assist grieving individuals. Claxton High School will close early on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. This will allow teachers, staff, and students who wish to attend the memorial service to be able to do so. The district will provide a school bus to transport students to and from the memorial service on Thursday; however, students will need to arrange a ride home from CHS. All high school athletic events have been cancelled for the remainder of the week.
A memorial candlelight vigil is being planned for today at 7:00 p.m. at the Pecan Grove and will be open to the public.
