Press Release

On Monday, April 18, 2022, the Evans County Charter Schools Board of Education approved a new traffic pattern for Claxton Elementary School starting May 16, 2022.  The new pattern was recommended by Superintendent Dr. Marty Waters in coordination with the Claxton Chief of Police Dale Kirkland, the Evans County Sheriff Mac Edwards, Claxton City Mayor Terry Branch, the Claxton Elementary School Governance Team, administration, and other county management.  This district will utilize the new traffic pattern for the last two weeks of school to determine if any adjustments need to be made before starting the 2022-2023 school year.  Flyers will be given directly to parents at CES beginning Monday, April 25th.

“The safety of our students, parents, staff, and community is very important to us, and having student pickup and drop-off at the entrance to Claxton Elementary School on Hwy. 301 was not safe”  - Dr. Marty Waters, ECCSS Superintendent.

Important points about the new traffic pattern are:

  • ALL parent traffic for CES, CMS, and CHS  should enter from Hendrix Street and Tiger Town Trail.

  • Only left turns will be allowed from Hendrix Street into CHS (SRO present), Tiger Trail (SRO present), and CMS Drop-off/Pick-up areas (SRO present).

  • CMS/CHS traffic should exit onto Hendrix Street (right turn only).

  • CES traffic should proceed to the rear of CES and loop around allowing students to exit (right-side) directing onto the sidewalk under cover of canopies.

  • Parent traffic should exit the campus using the access road onto Barnes Street and travel up to West Smith or West Liberty to access Hwy 301 at a traffic light.
