🌖 Out of this world learning in 4th Grade! 🌔Ms. Gardner's and Ms. Cason's 4th graders are mastering Standard S4E2b by developing models to describe the repeating patterns of the phases of the moon!1️⃣ Oreo Cookie Models: Students modeled how sunlight reflects off the moon to create the new, crescent, quarter, gibbous, and full moon phases.
2️⃣ Hands-On Astronomy: Using our Sun-Earth-Moon poster board model, students placed their heads in "Earth's" position to observe how the moon's orbit and alignment with the Sun change what we see from Earth! We also explored using the Sun-Earth-Moon Orbital Model.
3️⃣ Daily Tracking: We are recording observations on our wall calendar to analyze patterns and make scientific predictions for future moon phases.

Students in Mrs. Jenkins’ 2nd grade science class headed outdoors to investigate how plants can change their environment. In addition to reading about it, they observed our school grounds, gathered real-world evidence, and brought their discoveries back to the classroom.

This investigation directly supports Georgia Science Standard S2E3, which asks students to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about how weather, plants, animals, and humans cause changes to the environment.

Students completed a CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) to use evidence from their observations to explain how plants caused changes they discovered. 🌿📝

Science is everywhere, especially right outside our classroom doors! 🔬🍃

Breaking News!!! 🐣

We have CHICKS! 💛 Our first two chicks hatched today, and several more eggs have tiny cracks and little beaks working hard to make their way out! 🥚🐥 Watch the video clips below.

But the chicks are only part of the story.

Mrs. Bullard's K–5 STEM students have been doing the work of scientists. They have worked hard to obtain information, make observations, ask questions, collect and evaluate evidence, make predictions, compare organisms and life cycles, and communicate what they have learned.

They didn’t just learn about a chicken’s life cycle. They got to investigate it as it happened.

From researching what was happening inside the egg, to candling and observing development, to explaining how a chick gets what it needs to survive before hatching, students have been using evidence to build and revise their understanding along the way.

And today, some of their predictions are finally being put to the test!

These questions will be answered soon.
🐣 How many eggs will hatch?
🕵️‍♀️ What is inside that MYSTERY EGG?!
👀 And who will be waiting for us when we arrive tomorrow?

The incubator is getting noisy, and the excitement is BIG! Stay tuned because our investigation isn’t over just because the chicks are hatching. Now we have a whole new set of observations, questions, and discoveries ahead of us!

Our Kindergarten students have been putting their math skills to work as they learn to identify circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, hexagons, and octagons! 📐✨

They’re also building their math vocabulary by learning important position words. On Friday, our little Shape Detectives went on a shape hunt around the school! 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

Each shape they found had a tiger nearby, and students had to describe where the tiger was using words like above, beside, next to, below, behind, and in front of. 🐯

They had a BLAST while flexing their math and vocabulary skills! 💪📚🔷

On Tuesday, September 15, Evans County Pre-K received a royal treat! 👑🐯 Our very own Claxton Elementary School Principal, Mr. Harris, stopped by with a special book in hand, The Dot, to celebrate International Dot Day with our littlest Tiger Cubs!

Mr. Harris didn’t just read a story. He made his mark! ❤️ He made lots of new four- and five-year-old friends, shared encouraging words, brought plenty of smiles, and reminded our children that their ideas, creativity, and voices matter. And judging by all those little faces, we’re pretty sure he gained quite the fan club! 😂📚

There is something extra special about watching our school leaders take time to sit on a child’s level, open a book, and simply be present. Those few minutes may seem small, but to a four-year-old, they can be a very BIG dot in their school story. 🥹💕
