CHS boys soccer beat Metter 3-1 to end region play undefeated! Allen Ventura had 2 goals, one off an assist by Ladrelin Johnson. The 3rd goal came off a cross from Urises Danu that got knocked in by a Metter player. They enter playoffs as the #1 seed for the 3rd year in a row!

Students in Ms. Adams's 6th Grade Career Awareness class will be attending JA Biztown in Savannah, Georgia, at the end of May. JA BizTown creates an unmatched experience where 6th grade students are able to interact within a simulated economy and take on the challenge of fueling a business. The past couple of months, students have been completing practice job applications and job interviews. Today students interviewed for the job of their choice. Mrs.Kennedy’s class has been studying technical text. They made homemade ice cream in a bag with the ice cream recipe serving as the technical text for the activity.
Claxton Middle School Cheer Tryouts will be held on April 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th from 5:00 PM - 6:30PM at the Claxton Middle School Gym. A tryout packet was sent home with students yesterday. The completed packet must be turned in at tryouts. Students MUST wear black shorts (no Nike pros) and plain white shirts (no images or writing) on Friday the 15th. Hair must be pulled back as well.

Spring is here, and it's time for some new outdoor furniture! Mr. Hall's classes are using a blueprint to create wooden benches. Some of the measurements and markings proved a little tricky, but these students worked together to figure them out.

CEO Holly Durrence served as the guest speaker for this month's FCCLA meeting. Durrence described attitude as being one of the determining factors in college and career readiness. She provided members with five strategies for maintaining a positive attitude: using affirmations, visualizing goals, watching our words, greeting others with joy, and showing enthusiasm.

Culinary Arts had a special guest this week! CMS instructor Mr. Patrick Bradley worked with Mrs. Hart for a couple of days and led a lesson on the creation of a croquembouche (pastry cone). Almost too pretty to eat!

Did you know that the demand for Computer Science careers is anticipated to grow 22% by 2030? Did you know that only 22% of Computer Scientists are women? Members of the Girls Who Code organization on Georgia Tech campus visited Claxton Middle School to educate a group of 40 girls about computer science and STEM. Students learned how STEM shapes society, and how certain disciplines differ and specialize in their contributions to society. The GT Girl Who Code members provided an introductory presentation on Python and did a hands-on activity with CMS students. Paul Phillips, biologist and Production Coordinator at Arborgen, spoke to the 2nd graders about his job in agriculture, growing millions of trees right here in Evans County. Students were amazed at how trees are cloned to be the best “Super Tree” possible.
Congratulations to Junior Hunter Taylor! Hunter has been invited to attend the 2022 Career Academy this summer. This honor involves working one week with DNR at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center and on Jekyll Island.
Hunter is the son of Stormie and Kevin Taylor. Hunter has begun college coursework at Ogeechee Technical College in the area of Wildlife Management. He plans to become a game warden.

Mrs. Stephens's science class conducted a Forces Lab using Beyblades. They had to explain how friction and mass relate to the force needed to spin
the objects. They also connected this work back to Newton’s 1st Law of
Motion.
