📐✨ 7th Grade Math in Action! ✨📐
CMS 7th grade students participated in a hands-on learning activity using protractors and notecards to explore complementary and supplementary angles. They began by measuring pre-cut angles and then applied their knowledge of angle relationships to find the measures of missing adjacent angles.
It was great to see them demonstrating such a strong understanding of geometric concepts through active learning! 🔍📏

Hitting all the right notes! 🎶 We are thrilled to announce that our incredible music teacher, Mr. Burney, is the recipient of the January Sunshine Basket! ☀️
Chosen by Mrs. Kelly’s students, Mr. Burney was recognized for his endless encouragement and for making music come alive in the classroom. His dedication and kindness create a space where our students’ creativity can truly sing. Thank you, Mr. Burney, for sharing your light (and your music) with our school! 🎹✨

Move over, Francis Scott Key! ✍️🎤
Mr. Lewis' US History students put a new spin on 1812! After learning about the War of 1812 and the birth of our national anthem- The Star-Spangled Banner, students wrote and performed their very own versions.
It’s one thing to memorize history—it’s another to perform it! Great job to all these creative historians. 🐯🥁

Mrs. Reagan’s 3rd grade is tackling water pollution! 💧 Using M&Ms as "pollutants," students analyzed samples, discussed prevention tips, and graphed their data. A sweet way to learn about keeping our planet clean! 🌍🍫📊

📏✨ Measuring made fun! Mrs. Fennell’s 1st graders are using paperclips to measure objects of all shapes and sizes—learning that math is everywhere! 🖇️🧠

Beyond the Worksheet: Real-World Budgeting in Ms. Johnson’s Class 📉💰
If you walk by Ms. Johnson’s room, you might see students hard at work on creating various beverages for the Drink Cart orders that faculty and staff have ordered, but the real magic is happening behind the scenes with the students' monthly budgets.
Students are learning that a paycheck is more than just spending money—it's about responsibility. By using the "earnings" from their time working at the Drink Cart to pay for simulated "living expenses" (rent, phone bills, and utilities), they are developing the habits they need for life after graduation.
Once the bills are settled, the remaining "profit" can be used for snacks and drinks. This hands-on approach to budgeting turns abstract math into a tangible life skill. Great job, Ms. Johnson. Ms. Martin, Ms. McNeal, and students! We hear from faculty and staff that the drinks are delicious!

🧟♂️ Modeling the "Zombie Apocalypse" in Advanced Algebra! 📊
Is it a movie set? No, it's math class! Coach Transue’s Advanced Algebra students are currently mastering exponential functions by simulating a zombie virus outbreak.
Using a population simulation with different markers, students tracked how a single "infection" can spread through a crowd. By shaking the population bags and recording how many new "zombies" appeared in each round, students were able to visualize:
Exponential Growth: How quickly a virus can spread through a healthy population.
Exponential Decay: The rapid reduction of the healthy population over time.
It was a fantastic, hands-on way to turn abstract equations into real-world (and fictional-world!) data. Great job, Tigers! 🖤💛

📖 What is the Young Georgia Authors Competition?
The Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition has been celebrating the writing successes of Georgia students for more than 20 years. Sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE) and the Georgia Department of Education, this competition is unique because it is open to all types of writing—not just classroom assignments!
Creative Freedom: Students can submit short stories, poetry, essays, journals, or even alternative fiction.
The Process: Winners are chosen at the school level, then move to the District/RESA level. From there, one winner per grade is chosen to compete at the state level.
The Goal: YGA aims to promote writing across the curriculum and provide a platform for students to share their unique voices and perspectives.
We are so proud of these students for putting their thoughts onto paper and sharing them with the world. Good luck at the FDRESA level!
