🐾 Our future Claxton Middle School Tigers are on the move! This week, Claxton Elementary School (CES) 5th graders visited Claxton Middle School (CMS) for their 6th grade orientation, and it was a fantastic day! 🚌✨ Students spent time with each of the 6th grade teachers and our admin team: Mrs. Snyder, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Johnson-Bryant! Our CMS counselor, Mrs. Mincey, joined in on the orientation fun to help acclimate our newest Tigers to CMS! These "rising" 6th graders also toured the school, asked great questions, received some CMS welcome swag, and got a sneak peek at what middle school life is all about. 💬📚 Huge thanks to our visiting 5th graders, CMS, our 6th grade team, and to CES staff for working together to make this orientation a success! 📚✨ A Special Visit from the Library! ✨📚 We were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Sabrina Wright, Manager of the Evans County Public Library, to Claxton Elementary School! Mrs. Wright visited our students to share a special read-aloud and led them in a fun, hands-on craft—all while sharing exciting news about the library’s 2025 Summer Reading Program. 🎨📖 This year’s theme is "Color Our World," and the library has a fantastic lineup of weekly performers every Thursday at 4:00 PM at the Claxton Veterans Community Center: 🎶 May 29 – Kitty Kapow: Musical Extravaganza 🪄 June 5 – Chad Crews: Magical Reading Experience 🎭 June 12 – The Doc Magic Fun Time Variety Show 🎨 June 26 – The Great Jeffini: “Paint Your Story” Magic Show 📘 July 3 – Meet Amelia Bedelia! These free, family-friendly events are the perfect way to keep kids engaged in reading and creativity all summer long. 🚌🌿 AR All-Stars Go Wild! 🌿🚌 A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our 2nd–5th grade students who achieved a major milestone—meeting ALL 4 quarterly AR goals this school year! 📚✨ To celebrate their year-long dedication to reading, these superstar students were rewarded with an unforgettable trip to the Wild Georgia Safari Park in Metter, GA! 🦓🐪🐃 Students enjoyed a wild safari ride, getting up close with incredible animals like camels, zebras, longhorns, and buffalo. They also explored a hands-on petting zoo featuring goats, sheep, llamas, and emus, played on the playground, and topped off the day with a ride on the carousel! 🎠🐐🎉 We are so proud of the hard work these students have shown all year long. Today, our second graders released the butterflies they have lovingly observed through every stage of the life cycle—from tiny eggs to curious caterpillars, from quiet chrysalises to fluttering wings. As part of their study of animal life cycles (Georgia Standards of Excellence S2L1), students have been learning to ask questions and investigate the wonders of metamorphosis. But today’s release was about much more than science—it was a celebration of growth, courage, and the beauty of change. When the butterflies took flight, the children’s words rose with them—gentle, wise, and unexpectedly profound: "You don't have to be scared, butterfly. There are other butterflies out there." "You can do this!" "Don't worry, butterfly. I have your hand." "You will be okay. You can fly real high—higher than a bird!" "You have so much waiting for you." "You can go away. Your family will still be here." "You will make more friends that you don't even know." These words echo far beyond the butterfly experience. They are words for our fifth graders moving up to middle school, our eighth graders flying on to high school, and especially our graduating seniors who are about to soar into the world. Like the butterflies, they may be nervous. But they are ready. And their school family will always be here cheering them on.
