At The DEN, we know that first impressions matter! As part of our 2nd Annual C-Day, we challenged our students to "dress for the job they want," and they certainly delivered.
While so many of our Tigers looked fantastic in their professional attire, a few stood out for their exceptional attention to detail and polished presentation Mrs. Holly Durrence presented the students with a variety of gift cards as their rewards for looking so nice. Join us in congratulating our C-Day Professionalism Award winners!

C-Day isn't just about what happens in the classroom—it’s about seeing our community in action! Several of our grade levels took short trips to explore local career paths firsthand.
🚜 9th Grade: Our freshmen visited the OTC Hagan site. A huge thank you to Kayleigh McCall (OTC CDL Instructor) for hosting us and sharing exciting details about the CDL and diesel mechanics programs!
🔥 10th & 11th Grade: Students toured the brand-new Public Safety Complex. Thank you to Justin Denton (Evans County EMA Director) and our very own CCA firefighting students, Heydy Roblero-Ramos and Kaleb Figueroa, for introducing our Tigers to the vital work that happens at the facility.

Our CMS Junior Beta students are busy polishing their "storyteller voices," as they practice their read-alouds in preparation for their visit to CES for Read Across America Week.
We are so proud to see our Junior Beta members leading by example and sharing the joy of literacy with our younger students. Stay tuned for photos from their big visit!

Part of C-Day is ensuring our students are ready for the "real world." While our underclassmen focused on professional communication, our seniors dove into "Adulting 101" workshops!
🤝 Soft Skills Workshop (9th-11th Grade):
Thank you to Mari Whitfield (RISE), James Tanner (Cardinal Corporation), Jasmine Perez (Claxton Poultry), and Marqueshia Henry (Burlington Distribution Center) for teaching our students the "unwritten rules" of professional success.
🎓 Senior Life Skills & Future Planning:
Our seniors got hands-on with essential life lessons. Thank you to our guest instructors:

📚❤️ Read Across America Week at Claxton Elementary! ❤️📚
On Tuesday, we kicked off our celebrations with a wonderful Guest Reader Breakfast and we were thrilled to welcome over 50 guest readers to CES! This special event was part of our schoolwide recognition of Read Across America in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd.
🌟 A HUGE Thank You to All Our Volunteers! 🌟
Your time, enthusiasm, and support made this event incredibly special. Our classrooms were filled with excitement, imagination, and joy because of you. We appreciate each and every one of you! Volunteers from across the community came to read to students in Pre‑K through 5th grade, and we are so grateful for each person who took time out of their busy day to share the joy of reading with our students.
We also want to give a special shout‑out to Mrs. Hart, our Culinary Arts teacher, and her talented students, for preparing the delicious breakfast that started our morning off right.
Reading aloud plays a vital role in helping children grow as readers. It builds vocabulary, strengthens listening skills, supports brain development, and nurtures emotional intelligence. It is truly an essential part of early literacy.
💛🐯📚 Thank you all for making Read Across America Week unforgettable at CES!

The four college students came with big smiles, hands‑on activities, and toothbrushes for everyone. They showed our little learners how to brush the right way and why taking care of their teeth helps them grow strong, healthy smiles. 🪥💙
Our students loved practicing, asking questions, and laughing their way through the activities—it was a memorable morning! 📚💫
We’re so grateful for our friends at Ogeechee Technical College for sharing their time and supporting our students. Community partners like you help our smiles shine a little brighter! 🤝💛

CHS and The Den would like to extend a massive Thank You to the incredible organizations and individuals who helped make our 2nd Annual C-Day (Career, College, and Community) a triumph! By sharing your expertise, you are helping our Tigers map out their futures.
A special shout-out to our College and Career Showcase participants who met with all of our students throughout the day:
⚡ Industry & Energy: ACE Electric, SACK Company, Canoochee EMC, Yancey Bros, Claxton Poultry
🏦 Finance: Tippins Bank, Claxton Bank, South Georgia Bank

🎓 Education & Military: OTC Culinary Department, Army Reserves (Jason Trujillo), US Army, US Marines, Georgia Southern University/East Georgia State College, and Ogeechee Technical College

Since restarting the program in January 2025, our students have shown incredible growth. On Friday, February 13, 2026 twelve of our talented musicians represented Claxton at the District Jazz Band held at Georgia Southern University. This is a massive leap from last year, when the program was represented by just one student!
Congratulations to our 2026 honorees: Michael Griffin, Aaliyah Beasley, Colton Emanuel, Mario Garcia, Aubrey Hendrix, Yvonne Hung, Lane Lujan, Jason Newman, Mitchell Newman, Ramon Soto Dentil, Rayvelis Soto Dentil, and Rachel Wilkie.
Our Tigers performed in all four honor bands, with several students earning featured solos during the event. We are incredibly proud of the hard work these musicians have put in to find their rhythm so quickly. The future of Claxton Jazz is sounding bright! 🎶

Mrs. Stephens’ 8th grade Physical Science class lit up the lab while exploring how light reflects and refracts
Students traced glowing beams as they bounced off mirrors and bent through lenses, discovering how:
🔹 Plane mirrors reflect light at equal angles
🔹 Concave mirrors and convex lenses bring light together at a focal point
🔹 Convex mirrors and concave lenses spread light outward
But here’s where it connects to you.
When you check your reflection in the bathroom mirror, you’re seeing the law of reflection in action.
When you glance at your car’s side mirror and notice the wider view, that’s a convex mirror helping you see more of the world around you.
If you wear glasses or contacts, tiny lenses are bending light so your eyes can focus clearly.
Light is constantly bouncing and bending around you, quietly following the same rules our students tested. Once you understand those rules, you start to notice them everywhere.
