The halls of Claxton Middle School are busy again as students return for the new school year. Eager Tigers stopped by to greet their Tiger Pride teachers and get their schedules before heading to their first period class. Principal Tanita McDowell met with all students in the cafeteria to welcome them back and go over important information. Students were thrilled to meet their new teachers and catch up with friends. With a successful first morning under way, CMS is ready for an amazing year ahead!

🚸📚 School Transportation Safety Reminders🚸📚
As we welcome our Tigers back, please help us prioritize safety in school zones and with our school buses and drop-off/ pick-up zones!
🚦 Slow Down: School zones are designated to protect our Tigers, families, and guests. It's crucial to abide by the reduced speed limits posted in these areas. Slowing down gives drivers more time to react to unexpected situations, reducing the risk of accidents.
🚸 Stay Alert: Humans can be unpredictable! Watch out for children crossing the road, waiting at bus stops, etc. Eliminate distractions while driving, like using your phone, so you can be fully focused on the road and its surroundings.
👩🏫 Be Cautious During Drop-Offs/Pick-Ups: During drop-off and pick-up times, traffic can get congested. We ask for and appreciate your patience! Please follow our school traffic guidelines.
🛑 Stop for School Buses: When a school bus stops and extends its stop-arm, it means children are getting on or off. It is illegal to pass a school bus at this time, so always stop and wait until the stop-arm is retracted.
🚸 Spread Awareness: Please help us promote school zone safety in our community. Share safety tips with friends, family, and neighbors. The more people are aware, the safer we can be!

CMS teachers and staff were welcomed back to the 2023-24 school year on Wednesday when breakfast was served in the media center. Everyone spent time catching up over a great meal and got right down to necessary business with Mrs. McDowell, Mr. Harris, and Mrs. Tanner. Valuable information was given in order to make this school year a great one. Today, everyone was treated to an inspirational presentation by Troy Kemp from Ron Clark Academy. Mr. Kemp shared some wonderful knowledge with all staff. Some of the highlights were : 1.)Life is full of VUCA: volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity...we have to be prepared. 2.) As educators, we need to be multipliers: turn on our light so everyone else will turn on theirs. 3.) Play offense so you don't have to play defense. 4.) Curriculum won't stick if you don't prime the surface...make sure the students are prepared to receive what you are teaching them. 5.) Vuja De means seeing something familiar in a whole new way...don't spend time doing it the same old way; find a way to see and do it differently. 6.) Show your students what excellence looks like so they know how to get there. 7.) Belongingness is important! 8.) The greatest predictor of success is HOPE! CMS hopes that Mr. Kemp was able to encourage all teachers and staff so that we are able to have the best and most successful school year we've ever had!
