Today’s session of Coffee with the Counselor was both meaningful and informative! Ms. Mincey invited special guest Ms. Lakeisha Brown, GA Apex Program Manager and Candler Counseling Center Program Manager, to speak with some of our CMS students and parents about self-harm awareness.
During the discussion, Ms. Brown shared valuable insight on why this behavior sometimes occurs, signs to look for, and how families can support students who may be struggling.
💛 If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of depression or self-harm, please reach out — you are not alone. You can talk to a school counselor, teacher, administrator, or trusted friend/family member, or call 988 to connect with someone who can help.
We love our CMS Tigers 🐾 and want you to always remember — you have a safe place here with us!

In Mrs. Kirk’s ELA class, learners took on the role of “research detectives” as they investigated a set of fact cards about the Transcontinental Railroad 🚂.
Working in small groups, students read each fact aloud and decided how useful it was for research. They sorted information into three categories:
🧱 Concrete Facts – Specific details like names, dates, places, or numbers
⭐ Important Facts – True information, but not highly specific
☁️ Fluff – Vague, off-topic, or opinion-based details
This hands-on activity helped students practice recognizing strong, reliable information and explaining why some facts are more useful than others. It also strengthened their ability to paraphrase—putting facts into their own words for clear, original writing. ✍️
The lesson blended critical thinking, research, and writing skills in a fun, engaging way! 🌟

🧠🧐Students were deep into the ultimate math mystery! Ms. Selph's class turned into a detective agency, working in groups to solve the case of "The Murder of Ms. Selph." 🖤💛
To crack the clues—the suspect, the weapon, and the location—students had to correctly solve challenging conditional probability problems hidden throughout the room! It was a fantastic, hands-on application of complex math concepts.
Great work, detectives! Way to use your brains to save the day (and learn math)! 🖤💛

We wish McCullough and Jasmine the best as they continue their journey to becoming amazing educators! 📚💫 #ClaxtonElementary #TigerPride #FutureTeachers
Learning is delicious and essential! 🧠 Students in Ms. Johnson's and Ms. McNeal's class got hands-on with a fantastic cooking lesson. 🧑🍳 They practiced critical life skills by reading and following a recipe precisely, all while getting a taste of STEM! 🍎
This fun, interdisciplinary activity demonstrated exactly how math (measurements, fractions!) and science (chemical reactions, heat!) work together to create something amazing. From measuring ingredients to enjoying the final product, these students proved that following directions and teamwork lead to sweet success! Great job, everyone! 👏

Students and staff showed their Tiger Pride all week long by dressing up for themed days and celebrating making healthy choices! 🐯✨
We wrapped up the week with an exciting pep rally — parents joined us for an informational session with Mrs. Snyder, then faced off against the teachers in a fun game of Nine Square! 🙌
Students also competed in dodgeball, and our 7th graders came out on top! 💪
We proudly recognized our Tennis Team, Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Teams, and students with perfect attendance so far this year. 🎾🏀👏
Our amazing cheerleaders and band kept the energy high and made the event unforgettable! 🎶🎉

This week, our students learned all about the attributes of stars — from brightness and color to size and temperature! They even got to research their own stars and share some out-of-this-world facts with the class. 🌠💫
We’re so proud of their curiosity and excitement for learning!

🚨 Our Claxton High School freshmen had an amazing field trip, visiting the Claxton Police Department and the Claxton Public Safety Complex.
Students learned firsthand about patrol operations, communications, and community policing from Chief Kirkland, Lt. McKinnon, and SRO Smith. They also got an up-close look at fire equipment and emergency procedures thanks to Deputy Fire Chief Croft! 🚒
As Coach McLean said, "This experience gave our students a real look at the people and systems that protect our community every day.”
