Mrs. Yurek's eighth-grade students worked in groups to perform a "Character Autopsy" of characters from the novel, A Long Walk to Water. Students made character evaluations based on their different abilities as they related to certain parts of the body. For example, for the "brain," one student reflected on the difficulty the character experienced due to his worrying thoughts about his family. #activelearning #creativity

Red and Green Day at CMS...

Mrs. Cowart, Ms. Miyon and Mrs. Penny's class worked on fine motor skills and enjoyed a delicious Christmas cookie. Students had to spread their icing with a spoon and then they were allowed to pick Elf sparkles, Christmas magic dust or Rudolph's red sugar, to make it sparkle. #CES #ExcellenceLeadershipFamily

Claxton Elementary School recently sponsored a canned food drive to benefit the Evans County Food Bank. This service project aligned with the current mindset, "Live to Give". Students and staff donated to the cause and over 350 items were collected!
Grade levels competed against one another to encourage the donation efforts. The following homeroom classes were recognized as collecting the most items in the grade level. They were rewarded with a extra-special recess. Kindergarten - Ms. Hendrix
1st - Mrs. Whitfield
2nd - Mrs. Hollingsworth
3rd - Mrs. Laird
4th - Ms. Mikell
5th - Mrs. LaSala
Mrs. Cowart's PreK class was the school-wide winner! They donated the most items overall.
In the spirit of giving, CES hopes that our donations will make a difference for others in our community.

Holiday hat day at CMS...

Ms. Ikner's 6th grade ELA students participated in a student-led discussion based on the Harkness method. Each student posed a question and an answer in the discussion as it related to the three texts that were read. Students discussed the topics that presented in each of the articles and attempted to find the connection in them. #activelearning #studentleddiscussion

Our athletes had a fantastic time bowling at The Clubhouse in Statesboro for the Fall Special Olympics 2022. We have the BEST athletes at Claxton High School and Claxton Middle School!

The CMS/CHS Bands and Chorus performed their Christmas Concert for a full house on Tuesday, December 13. All three groups did an excellent job. We'll be posting more pictures from the event directly to the ECCSS Facebook page. #MerryChristmas #RealLifeApplication

Please help ECCSS celebrate our awesome CMS Band. They performed their Christmas Concert Tuesday evening. In addition to sharing awesome selections, different members of our CMS Band introduced themselves, the selections, and shared a little bit about what they have learned before each song was performed. We loved seeing our musicians shine!

On 12/8, Mr. Gay's High School High Tech students took a tour of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) campus. Our students were able to tour many of the classrooms because the SCAD was already on Winter Break. The most exciting part of the tour was the interactive SCAD Story that showcased many of the talents of past students. The students were surprised to see that college doesn't always just consist of book work. Students saw that many careers require more hands-on training as opposed to the traditional learning experiences.

Special Olympic athletes from CMS , CHS, and Evans County Hall of Famers demonstrated their skills in the first Fall Games since 2019!
CHS SOGA volunteers gave their time to facilitate bocce and basketball skill stations and cheer on the athletes!
It's good to be growing together again!
