It's that time of year when we all might benefit from a formal lesson on handwashing! This is the first skill among many taught in the Nurse Aide Fundamentals dual enrollment course. In these photos, students are using a checklist to practice and peer assess, and instructor LaKeisha Welch is assessing students as they use these foundational skills. In May we look forward to introducing 15 new CNAs to our community! #TheDEN

Today has been a long, busy, and exciting day for these musicians! They left early for the University of Georgia where they attended the GMEA High School Experience. This event was an invitational event for students with an interest in music education. We are proud of these Music Tigers! Students in Coach Lanier's class reviewed propaganda and political cartoons to analyze the effects of Imperialism after the Industrial Revolution. 📊✨ ECCSS and school admin and support staff joined forces this week for our annual mid-year data meeting! 📊💪 Our Tiger staff dove deep into mid-year MAP and benchmark data, pinpointing trends, focus areas, and potential root causes. With this info in mind, our ECCSS teams planned strategic next steps! Some of the CHS finalists in the MLK Oratorical Community Competition spent time practicing with input from teachers Ms. Beecher and Mr. Lewis, along with student mentor, Miya Herrington. Finalists Tiya Patel, Yamil Romero-Binuelo, and Lizzy Crawford practiced their writings in preparation for the competition that will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10AM in the CMS gym. Keep up the great work CHS students! We are proud of you and look forward to celebrating with you once the winners are announced.

Congratulations to Quae'zon Barnes (diesel mechanics), Elijah Brewton (welding and diesel mechanics), Eric Christman (industrial maintenance), and Jalen Day (diesel mechanics)! These students joined the pre-apprenticeship program at Claxton Poultry. Students in this program pursue postsecondary credentials that are related to their job assignment and earn on-the-job-experience as they work under an assigned mentor. We are proud of these Tigers! #TheDEN

A dream coming true--Katelynn Butler has known since eighth grade that she wanted to become a game warden. Through dual enrollment opportunities, that goal is becoming a reality. When Butler graduates next year, she will leave high school with both her high school and Fish and Wildlife Management diplomas. In the meantime, Butler is savoring dual enrollment classroom experiences, volunteering at the Public Fishing Area, and serving as a student representative on the Evans Region College and Career Academy Board. Mrs. Hallman's 2nd grade class dove into 3 digit numbers in their Illustrative Math, with students choosing a 3-digit number, and showing it in a variety of ways, including expanded form, numbers, pictures, and words! Our CHS juniors are working on their Canoochee EMC Washington Youth Tour Competition entries! Earlier this month, Canoochee EMC’s Joe Sikes encouraged all CHS juniors to enter this year’s Washington Youth Tour Competition! Damonae Wharton, one of last year's Washington Youth Tour winners and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) representative for WHOLE state of Georgia for the Youth Leadership Council, also encouraged the Class of 2025 to pursue this AWESOME opportunity! The first round of competition requires an essay entry, and round two involves an in-person interview. Winners of the contest receive a week-long, all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC, a cash award, and more. The deadline for essays is February 2. Information about this contest, including essay topics, is in the 2025 Cohort Google Classroom. We are grateful to Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Walker for supporting our juniors in this competition! Also, we are thankful for Canoochee EMC’s support of our school and students! We wish the Class of 2025 all the best in this year's competition!
