6th-grade students in Mrs. Myers's Science class are using Merge Cubes to learn about the Earth-Sun-Moon systems. The Merge Cube allows students to use Augmented & Virtual Reality Science to hold digital 3D objects in the palm of their hand, enabling an entirely new way to learn and interact with the digital world. Through their work, students will develop and use a model of the Earth-Sun-Moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the Sun and Moon, and seasons.

Mrs. Smith, Ms. Eason and Mrs. Amber’s Pre-K class enjoyed mailing special Valentine letters.

Dr. Waters, Superintendent of the Evans County Charter School System, announced changes to BOE members at their Thursday, February 10, 2022 Work Session. Based upon a sustained decrease in internal cases (less than 2%) and input from our local medical advisory group, district administration, and School Governance Team members, the district will return to a Level 1 category for Covid Mitigation. Changes will take effect Friday, February 11, 2022.
Masks will no longer be mandatory, but recommended. The district will discontinue contact tracing and parent notifications. It is still recommended that individuals who are exposed or become positive follow the CDC guidelines to isolate/quarantine for at least 5 days and return to work/school if they are asymptomatic and have been fever-free for 24 hours.
The district will continue disinfecting and fogging as a preventive measure. In addition, the district changes air filters monthly and contracts for routine HVAC service and maintenance. The district would like to remind parents/employees that the East Georgia Healthcare Center is available on site at Claxton Elementary School for all students, employees and their immediate families. ECCSS also participates with the Georgia Department of Public Health to provide on site testing at Claxton Elementary on Mondays and Claxton Middle/High School on Thursday. This is an optional program for parents. Testing is only done with parent consent.
The district implemented mask mandates as a mitigation effort on January 11, 2022 in response to almost 33% of faculty/staff becoming exposed and/or positive, requiring the district to close schools January 12, 13, and 14, 2022.
"No one enjoys the inconveniences that have come about because of the COVID pandemic. We all desire to keep schools operating with face to face instruction as normal as possible. These mitigation factors have contributed to ECCSS only having to close 5 days in the last two school years. I sincerely hope and pray this is the last time we have to implement such efforts."

Mr. Lanier's and Ms. Beecher's US History classes completed a WWI home front gallery walk to see how US government propaganda encouraged civilians to do their part to support the war effort.

Students in Mr. Sapp's STEM class learned the basics of Glide, an online service that lets you make mobile apps from Google Spreadsheets. Daniel Rivera and Dustin Hightower from First District RESA taught the students how to start with a base template and how to plug the data into the mobile app from a spreadsheet.
