The Georgia Department of Education issued the following press release regarding the state's graduation rate data today. The state reported a graduation rate of 83.7% for the 2020-2021 school year. Claxton High School has for the third year exceeded the state average with a rate of 89.19%.
Beginning in 2017, the Evans County School district established a strategic plan for improving educational outcomes. One of the goals was to increase our graduation rate to meet and exceed the state average. We have done so the last three years. Despite many obstacles, the largest of which was and is Covid-19, the district has been successful in improving their graduation rate by developing strong partnerships with our post-secondary partners, our businesses and industries, and our community. Through these partnerships and the flexibility of being a charter district, CHS has been able to improve the educational programs as well as introduce "the D.E.N.," a college and career academy, which has increased educational pathways based upon our regional workforce development needs. We will continue to pursue our mission to ensure a commitment that ALL students have the opportunity and support to achieve the high levels of learning and character development required for successful college, career , and work endeavors through partnerships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
Congratulations to the CHS administrations, teachers, staff, and students for a job well done!
Georgia Rate / CHS Rate:
2018 - 81.6% / 81.82%
2019 - 82.0% / 89.62%
2020 - 83.8% / 87.6%
2021 - 83.7% / 89.19%
