ECCSS has seen a decrease in cases over the last four weeks. Other than one self-reported quarantine, this week saw no reported cases. We are pleased that mitigation efforts seem to have been successful. The district has begun conversations with stakeholders about the appropriate time to relax some of its mitigation efforts. Changes will depend on a continued decline in the community transmission, but could be as soon as mid-October. The district will release another update on Friday, October 8, 2021.

For immediate release.... Late Thursday evening, Evans County School officials and Claxton Middle School administrators were made aware of a video being shared on social media depicting an alleged assault. District officials and law enforcement are actively investigating the incident. ECCSS values a positive, safe, and conducive learning environment and disruptions to the learning process or situations compromising the safety of students and/or employees will be dealt with swiftly. All guilty parties will be prosecuted and disciplined to the fullest extent. The district suspects this video is associated with Tiktok and other social media sites which are circulating "challenges" calling for destruction of property, vandalism, and even the assault of students and school employees. We are calling on all parents to closely monitor their children's social media. If you see something, please notify your child's school. It is only through this type of partnership with parents and local law enforcement that the school district can ensure a safe learning environment.
