
The winner of the Kyle Durrence Scholarship is Luis Torres-Rodriguez! This scholarship honors a senior who has participated in a sport each year, is an active member of an organization that supports community involvement, and has at least a 90 average. Way to go, Luis!

Congratulations to Le'Nijah Cullars, this year's recipient of the Oliver Jones, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Jones was a Political Science professor at Florida A&M University and spent thirty years in education. This award is reserved for a senior who has been accepted at a historically black college or university.

Congratulations to Mikala Palmer, this year's recipient of the Mattie Pearl Woody Memorial Scholarship! This scholarship is given to a senior who plans to attend a technical college and major in nursing or cosmetology. Mrs. Woody, a local cosmetologist and parent of a chronically ill child, valued education and ensured that each of her children furthered their education beyond high school.

Congratulations to Hunter Mitchell, the first recipient of the Thomas E. Flanigan Memorial Scholarship! This scholarship was established to help graduating
high school seniors pursue a technical school certification in the field of welding,
machinist, and other industrial applications. The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Thomas E. Flanigan Sr. (Tom), Thomas E. Flanigan Jr. (Tommy) and Thomas E. Flanigan III (Trey). For over 100 years of combined service, these men made careers in our community out of welding, machining, fabricating, repair work and industrial applications.

Le'Nijah Cullars received the Gordon and Deotha Lovett Memorial Scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Lovett valued learning and supported their children in pursuing their education. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who plans to attend a technical school and major in culinary arts or automotive technology. Congratulations, Le'Nijah!

The Freida Baggett Padgett Scholarship is given in memory of Mrs. Freida Padgett who taught US History, Government, and World History at Claxton High School. This scholarship is for a graduating senior who has been accepted at a college or university, has been active in the community, involved in high school, and has a love for history. This year, Mrs. Cindy Henry, daughter of Mrs. Padgett, decided to award three very deserving seniors. The overall winner was Luis Torres-Rodriguez. The two runners-up were Karon Taylor and Stephan Bellamy.

Jamon Mangusho and Emily Stroud received the Evans County Recreation Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students who have participated in athletics or worked at the recreation department and is based on an essay submission. Congratulations, Jamon and Emily!

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority awarded scholarships to Taylor Davis and Lynzi Holland. These awards were based on academic achievements, community service, leadership qualities, goals, and letters of recommendation. We are proud of you, Taylor and Lynzi!

This year's Claxton Mothers Club Scholarship was awarded to Jordan Simmons. Jordan received this honor in recognition of her academic excellence, leadership qualities, and essay submissions. Congrats, Jordan!

The Claxton Bank awarded Jamon Mangusho and Jenna Simmons a $1250 scholarship! This scholarship is awarded to two seniors who maintain an impressive academic record and are actively involved in the school and community. Congratulations, Jamon and Jenna!



On Wednesday, May 19th, our grade-band winners from the Hispanic Heritage Art and Writing Competition, Martin Luther King Writing and Oratorical Competition, Evans County Wildlife Club Writing Competition, and grade-level winners from Young Georgia Authors were treated to our annual Spring Writing Celebration.
The celebration was hosted at the Evans County Public Fishing Area (PFA). Students participated in outdoor writing fun and were treated to a picnic lunch!
Special thanks to Evans County School System (ECSS) for sponsoring the event! Also, we'd like to thank Mr. Steve Mincey and the Evans County PFA for and all of our community and ECSS volunteers for making this such a great celebration of young writers in ECSS!
