Mrs. Kennedy’s class had fun reading "Arnie the Doughnut" by Laurie Keller. They enjoyed eating doughnuts while also learning about all of Arnie's character traits.
Students in Ms. Shanda’s Pre-K class were shape detectives! They had different shaped “magnifying glasses” they used on a shape hunt throughout the school!

Saving Fred!

CES Portrait Day Coming Soon!

Freshman Seminar students accepted the challenge from Claxton Poultry's President Mikell Fries to repeat the Marshmallow Challenge that he observed when he visited the CCA a couple of weeks ago. Fries encouraged the students to create an even bigger and better tower this second time and shared how this exercise is similar to situations that he and his team members face at the plant.
CCA Instructor Candice Altman reported that the groups improved their design during this second attempt. They began by planning-- choosing a leader, designating roles, sharing the former process, and creating a prototype before beginning construction. Through collaborative sharing, the featured group realized the importance of a base in their second attempt.

It looked like an episode of Cupcake Wars was being filmed in our culinary arts lab today! Under the direction of CCA instructor Cindy Hart, students made carrot cupcakes from scratch and tried their hand at using the different piping tools.
Just for Fun: Do you know how baker's let customers know the flavor of the cake? They create crumbles from a small section of sliced cake and use them as decoration on top. Another strategy is to leave the edges without frosting so that the cake remains visible.

Claxton Middle School will implement WozED, a standards-based program that engages students in scientific and mathematical inquiry. Through interactive kits, students will gain exposure to real-world STEM situations and have the opportunity to solve problems incorporating the engineering process. In the drone pathway, STEM students will be improving their piloting skills as they learn about the physics of flight using drones. In the mobile app pathway, students will be learning the process of mobile app development. Students will plan for the creation of an app by exploring purpose, functionality, and design. They will build a paper and digital prototype, gain feedback from peers, and make changes to improve their designs before using App Lab by Code.org to create final versions of their app.
