Ms. Ashley Paine, Health Careers Coordinator at Magnolia Coastlands AHEC, visited Healthcare pathway students today. She shared her journey in healthcare and introduced students to careers in the field via a game. Today marked the beginning of the Jumpstart Program which will provide these students twenty contact hours of support in the form of field trips, guest speakers, simulations, and access to some of the most current resources in healthcare.
Students in Mrs. Rebekah Francis's Spanish classes are preparing a piece of writing and art in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15 and ends October 15. Pictured are two students encouraging one another as they work on their entries and a work of art in progress.
One, two, three--that's right--THREE classes collaborated today to help one another meet instructional goals. Firefighting recruits practiced risk analysis and physical and mental preparedness. Team Sports welcomed the opportunity to play these uniformed recruits in a friendly game of dodge ball, and Audio-Video students embraced the challenge of capturing all of the "just right moments" of the game on camera. We are proud of these students and their teachers!

ECCSS Covid Transmission Report - Week of August 9-13, 2021
7th Grade students in Miss Toothman's ELA classes got to participate in a book tasting today. Students were given a chance to look at the covers and first chapters of many genres of books and create their reading wish list for this year.
Lee Ann Lane's Financial Literacy students completed the ‘Life: Game of Chance?’ Activity by rolling the dice to see their life outcomes. The other picture shows students drawing pictures that represent the meanings of financial literacy vocabulary.

Fifth grade students are identifying surface features as being caused by constructive and/or destructive processes (weathering and erosion).
In these pictures, you see students engaged in learning with the Active Floor. They reviewed types of weathering and erosion that causes surface features on Earth to form. Through games involving physical activity, the students’ abilities in collaboration and communication are strengthened.
Mrs. Sapp's 3rd - 5th grade art classes have been learning about artist George Seurat, Pointillism (dot painting) and mixing colors. The classes made their own copy of Seurat's painting of 'Sunday at the La Grande' using tiny dots.

Parents and Guardians, if your child is exhibiting symptoms of Covid, then please get them tested and keep them home until you get the results. Absences will be excused and they can make up the work. Schools are doing all that they can to sanitize, promote social distancing, and enforce masks. We must have your cooperation if we are to keep schools open.
Today marks day 9 in school. We anticipated that this week and early next week would be our indicator for viral spread given the incubation period of 10 days for Covid-19. To date our rate of positive reported cases has remained below 1% and our quarantined cases have remained below 2%. Considering these are similar numbers to last spring, that is excellent, especially considering we remain in a high transition area.
CES students are learning the correct way to type in Mrs. Davis' Career Class. They are excited to be able to type from the home row without looking down at the keyboard.
