🌾 Claxton Elementary Hosts 2nd Annual Ag Awareness Day! 🌾 On Friday, October 25, Claxton Elementary students, from kindergarten to fifth grade, gathered to celebrate the essential role of agriculture in our community! 🌱🚜 In partnership with Evans County 4-H Extension Office, CES hosted Ag Day, filled with over 20 vendors, educators, and Claxton High School volunteers who brought the world of farming, agribusiness, and rural life to life! 🎉 The field outside the CES gym transformed into a hands-on agri-learning space with booths, equipment, and exciting demonstrations. Students explored everything from tractor safety and conservation to farm animal care! CHS students from agriculture, culinary, and firefighting pathways joined in, helping younger students learn more about their passions and future career paths. 🍅👩‍🚒🐄 A big highlight? The grand finale fire safety demo! A fire helicopter dropped water on a blazing hay bale, with CHS firefighting students stepping in to extinguish the flames—an unforgettable experience for everyone. 🚁🔥 Thank you to everyone who made this event possible—our amazing community, 4-H partners, and all our CES and CHS students and staff! This day reminded us all of agriculture’s powerful role in supporting our community and economy. 🌍💚 #ReadySetGrow

Work experience is valuable at any age, and perhaps even more so in high school, especially if career aspirations and the job align. This in-field experience allows students to confirm or correct their thinking regarding their future in the workforce while building a powerful resume. Mario Ramirez has given careful thought to his future. He is an Accelerated Career Diploma student enrolled in the electrical systems program at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC). In two years, Mario will receive diplomas from both Claxton High School and OTC. In the meantime, he will apprentice under an electrician at Claxton Poultry. Congratulations, Mario, on your recent signing! We can't wait to see this Tiger turn his tassels in May 2026! #TheDEN

Last week, our second-grade students dove into a fun and hands-on learning experience in the Collaboratory! Before arriving, they read Measuring Penny, a book about a girl named Lisa who learns to measure her dog in creative ways—like using both inches and dog biscuits! Inspired by Lisa’s adventure, students took measuring to a whole new level by combining it with robotics. In the Collaboratory, students estimated how many Root robots tall various dog breeds were on posters displayed around the room. They programmed the robots to measure their estimates, then revised their guesses after testing their code. After discovering the actual number of robots tall each dog was, they used tape measures to record each dog’s height in centimeters, comparing the sizes of different dogs. This engaging activity connected literacy, robotics, and math standards: • MDR.5.1: Students constructed simple measuring instruments and compared unit models to rulers. • MDR.5.2: They practiced estimating and measuring to the nearest whole unit using standard tools. • MDR.5.3: Students measured to determine how much longer one “dog” was than another. • MDR.5.4: They asked and answered questions based on their observations, using data to solve relevant problems. By integrating literacy, robotics, and math, our second graders honed their measuring skills and enjoyed an interactive way to learn!
