***ECCSS Shares Tentative Return-to-school Plan Following Ongoing Impacts of Helene***
October 4, 2024: Evans County Charter School System (ECCSS) is continuing to collaborate with community partners and other resource providers as we strive to create a safe return-to-school plan. Additionally, departments across our district continue to work to assess and update internal resources related to safety, academics, school nutrition, transportation, and technology, so we can determine a safe and effective return-to-school plan for our students, staff, families, and community. ECCSS also continues to collaborate with the Evans County Emergency Management Agency (ECEMA) and to monitor power restoration in Evans County; our goal is to have approximately 80% of our staff capable of returning to work in order to open schools safely for operation.
In order to help our students, staff, and families with short-term planning, we have developed a tentative return-to-school schedule. Please note that this this plan is subject to change. Our Technology Department is working to assess the conditions of internal technology resources and to make sure these items are restored.
---Our Transportation Department will reassess road conditions over the weekend to determine what route adjustments may need to be in place for our return.
---After careful consideration and input from various stakeholders, and with compassion for the challenges our community has faced, the fall break scheduled for October 14-October 18 for students and October 16-18 for staff will remain scheduled. Our professional learning teams (PLTs) will collaborate to adjust curriculum maps as needed. ECCSS will collaborate with the BOE and other stakeholders to determine if inservice days scheduled for February and March will be converted to regular school days.
Please monitor our district and school communications, as well as district social media, for any further developments. Student, employee, family, and community safety are our number one priority. Stay safe!

Updated- The dental van will not be on campus tomorrow. We will update when we have a rescheduled date!
The Help a Child Smile mobile dental van will be at CMS/CHS on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. There is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid/PeachCare for Kids and they also accept most private dental plans. The mobile dental van is a full service mobile dentist office that can provide complete exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride, as well as sealants and cavity treatments when needed. If your child does not have a regular dentist or hasn't had a dental visit in the past 12 months, this is a great opportunity! Information packets with consent forms were sent home with all students in their back to school packets given out at the beginning of the school year. Additional copies of the form can be obtained in the school's front office, or you can sign your child up online at www.MySchoolDentist.com.

We hope all of our Tigers and our community are safe in the aftermath of Helene. Due to the impacts of Helene, ECCSS schools & offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 through Thursday, Oct. 3.
Depending on power restoration and food deliveries, the closure may extend beyond Thursday, October 3. We plan to provide an update by Wednesday, October 2, at 2:00 PM.
We know there are many in our community, like us, who are without power, cell service, and internet access. If you are able to help us safely spread the word about this closure, we appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Below are decisions ECCSS made thus far:

Teachers are forever students! Not only do they learn each day in their classrooms, but they also learn from their peers during Professional Learning Team (PLT) meetings.
During today's PLT meeting, one of the CTAE lead teachers, Betty Smith, opened the meeting with an inspirational message. She shared that fall is her favorite season of the year because of the changes observed. She connected these changes to the changes we see in our students that require love, encouragement, inspiration, and guidance.
Thank you, Mrs. Smith, for reminding us to uplift others regardless of the season!
