Thank you to all the CHS FFA members and their families who attended our first annual Thanksgiving Dinner! It was a truly great time of food, fellowship, and community. We appreciate everyone who contributed to the feast! 🖤💛

We were happy to extend the spirit of giving after the dinner was over by sharing some of our extra food with our incredible Evans County first responders. Thank you for all you do for our community! 🚒🚓

Join us for festive fun each day as we count down to the holidays! Here’s what’s coming:

🧝‍♂️ December 4 – Elfie Selfie Thursday
Dress like an elf or wear red and green.
Find an elf and send a selfie with it to Mrs. Hendrix to be entered into a prize drawing!

☃️ December 5 – Frosty Friday
Dress like a snowman or wear your favorite scarf, hat, and gloves!

🎅💚 December 8 – Santa vs. Grinch Day
Dress like the jolly one or the grumpy one!

🍬 December 9 – Candy Cane Day
Wear red & white and stop by the library to guess how many candy canes are in the jar.
Closest guess wins a sweet holiday prize!

📸 December 10 – Holiday Photo Booth Challenge
Stop by the library to snap a festive holiday photo and submit it to enter the Holiday Photo Contest.
Winner receives a holiday prize!

🎁 December 11 – Decorate the Gratitude Tree
Add an ornament with something you're grateful for and help our tree grow with joy and kindness.

☕ December 12 – Cozy Cocoa Day
Warm up in the library with a cup of cocoa and all the fixings—marshmallows, peppermint, and more!

🎩 December 15 – Holly Jolly Hat Day
Wear your favorite holiday hat or headgear!

🔵 December 16 – Blue Christmas
Wear blue (and jeans)!

Do you have a snowflake in your pocket? You know what to do…

🦃 “I Am Not a Turkey!” – A Creative Writing and Thinking Task

In November, Mrs. Kirk's 4th-grade learners took on a fun and creative challenge—helping a turkey escape Thanksgiving dinner! After designing a unique disguise for their turkey, learners chose to write one of two pieces:

An opinion piece, pretending to be the disguised turkey and arguing, “I am not a turkey, I am...”, or

A narrative story, sharing an imaginative adventure about the turkey’s escape from the Thanksgiving feast.

While this activity was full of laughter and creativity, it also helped learners apply important writing skills aligned to the Georgia Standards in English Language Arts.

Geometry Comes to Life! 🏰🐉

Students in Mrs. Selph's, Mrs. Cook's, and Mrs. Francis's Geometry classes recently wrapped up an exciting hands-on project that combined math, storytelling, and design!

Using their knowledge of volume, surface area, and dilations, students created custom 3D castles and critters from self-designed nets. Each model was paired with a unique narrative story, bringing their mathematical creations to life through creativity and imagination. This project truly shows that math is all around us! 📐✨

We are ALWAYS proud of all our Tiger athletes, but this week we want to send an extra loud cheer to our incredible Flag Football Lady Tigers as they head to Columbus to compete in the Playoffs! These girls have worked so hard, and we couldn’t be more proud!

And let’s not forget the ones who are usually leading the cheers on the sidelines — our Competition Cheerleaders are taking the floor at the Game Day State Competition at the Columbus Civic Center Thursday morning at 8:20 AM!
This is the first time in 31 years a Claxton High School Competition Cheer team will be competing, and we are beyond excited to watch these girls perform and represent Claxton with pride!

Deep Dive into WWII History! 🧠

Coach Lanier's class has been examining the complex history of Japan, tracing its path from a traditional state to an empire and finally to a democracy. Students covered Japan's reasoning for bombing Pearl Harbor and the intense battles in the Pacific Theater. 🚢

Aftere a lesson focused on the United States' decision to use the atomic bomb, students then engaged in a thoughtful and rigorous debate on whether the use of the bomb was historically justified. This is critical thinking in action! 💡

Confidence is Cooking! 🧑‍🍳

What a heartwarming "Friendsgiving" in Ms. Johnson, Ms. Keta, and Ms. Katie's class! Paired with CHS peer mentors, the students excelled in a collaborative cooking activity.

By taking on specific tasks and supporting one another, the students boosted their confidence in daily living tasks and strengthened their social interaction skills. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment—especially when it leads to a shared meal and great conversation about gratitude!

📊✨ Ms. Swift’s Class is Exploring Statistics! ✨📊

This week, Ms. Swift’s students have been learning all about statistical data. Each student chose their own topic — anything they were curious about — and collected information to analyze.

Using their data, they created:
➡️ Pictographs
➡️ Bar graphs

Students learned how to organize information, represent it visually, and explain what their graphs show. It’s been so exciting to see them take ownership of their learning and explore topics they care about!

So proud of their creativity and hard work! 🌟📚

Today was a beautiful beginning!

Our ninth graders met their mentors for the very first time—and the room was filled with smiles, handshakes, warm conversations, and the kind of encouragement every student deserves. This is what happens when a community shows up: students feel seen, supported, and ready to take on the future.

We are incredibly grateful for our first ever career coaches!
