Students in Mrs. Liberatore’s class found out what happens when you mix solids (pop rocks) with liquids (coke). They discovered that gas (carbon dioxide) is produced and released into the balloon. This project based learning activity was made possible by the 4Cs: Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Collaboration.

The Agriculture pathway expanded its family today! For the past few weeks, two different types of quail eggs have been incubated by students. After 18 days of incubation, the first Pharaoh quail made their appearance, and the students eagerly await the arrival of the Snowflake quail, which will take approximately six more days. Comparisons will be made regarding growth rates between the two species. Which bird, eating the same food ration, do you predict will reach target weight faster? The Den extends a huge thank you to Bobby Colson of B & G Honey Farms for donating the Pharaoh eggs.

Mr. Sapp’s STEM classes were introduced to the Engineering Design Process this week. Students enjoyed problem solving with their teams to see who could build a freestanding ring using only potato chips. In this activity, teams were able to brainstorm, design, test, and redesign their project. Students also completed a writing component in which they were able to communicate their results. This activity required students to practice all of the 4Cs.

Many students in ECCSS are working on narrative writing in their ELA classes. Check out these pics below from Ms. Shaul's class. These CES 3rd graders participated in shared, guided, collaborative, and independent writing for their narrative practice. Students helped Ms. Shaul with word choice and idea development, practiced with Ms. Shaul and a classmate's help, and then practiced adding to their narratives independently. We can't wait to read their narrative writing! #ECCSSWriters #ExplicitInstruction #CelebrateOurStaff #CelebrateOurStudents #CES
