Day 1: Freedom to Read
Thank you to Lieutenant James Waters, Claxton Police Dept. and Deputy Nicole Sprague, Evans County Sheriff's Dept. for taking time, from their busy day of serving & protecting, to share a book with our students at CES.
Thank you also to Deputy Sprague for her service in the U. S. Marine Corps !
On Friday night the boys varsity soccer team played a hard game against an undefeated Portal team. Jaime Delgado led off the scoring for the Tigers off a perfect assist from Urises Danu. After two handballs in the box by Portal, goal number two came from Urises Danu on a PK followed by Brayan Ajtun for goal number three on another PK. Goal number four came from a perfect free kick from Luis Zamora to Brayan Ajtun who got his head on the ball. Portal was able to tie the game up late in the second half taking the game into double overtime and Penalty Kicks. Seven confident and composed Tigers made their PKs with freshman Luis Munoz scoring the final goal for the Tiger Victory. Claxton Tigers remain undefeated in Region play and moved up to the number one spot as they go into game three against Bryan County on Friday.

Mrs. Cowart, Ms. Miyon and Ms. Taylor's class started the week out right...dressed in red, white and blue! They had fun with the numbers on their hats and working together to put themselves in the right order (of course they didn't stay that way!)
Students in Ms. Jackson’s 6th grade World Geography class presented their Parade of Nations research project. Students researched and collaborated together to create a presentation highlighting the location, language, religion, and cultural of various countries.
CTAE Month Highlight: Brian Croft
My road to CTAE teaching has been a winding one. It began when I was in the military and served as an instructor for the Military Police. This teaching experience prompted me to get my Firefighter Instructor Certification while serving on the Claxton Fire Department. I then pursued a state training position with the Georgia Forestry Commission. Each year that went by gave me more life experience and confidence to pass on the skills that I have learned in public safety. I also saw a need in our community–public safety will need younger generations to fill the void of retirees in the near future. This year I began teaching high school students the Firefighting Pathway courses.
I love the opportunity this position provides me–to leave a legacy of service before self. I want to empower students to help others in time of need.
The Miss Claxton High School pageant was held on Saturday, February 26 in the new CMS/CHS cafetorium. Mollie Lane, daughter of Jason and Lee Ann Lane captured the coveted title of Miss Claxton High School 2022. Mollie is in the 10th grade and was also awarded the Interview award. Senior Tanslei Lupton, daughter of Adran and Bendi West, was awarded 1st runner up, along with the Photogenic award and CHS Spirit award. Mel Smith, a junior at CHS and daughter of Tonny and Betty Smith, was awarded 2nd runner up. 10th grader Laney Massey, daughter of Wesley and Crystal Massey, received 3rd runner up. Senior Addison Snellgrove was the recipient of the Miss Congeniality award and People's Choice award.
Seniors Sergio Gomez and Joshua McKiver and junior Aiden Hurt served as escorts for the evening and competed for the title of Mr. CHS. Sergio, son of Sergio Sr. and Socorro Gomez, was awarded the Mr. CHS crown. Joshua, son of Alphonso and Shronda McKiver, was awarded 1st runner up.
On Saturday, February 26th, the 2022 Miss CMS and CHS pageants were held in the CHS cafetorium. 8th grader, Kamryn Carter, captured the title of Miss Claxton Middle School 2022. Kamryn is the daughter of Tomeka Murphy. She was also awarded the Most Photogenic award and the CMS Spirit award. Ella Massey, the 7th grade daughter of Wesley and Crystal Massey, was awarded 1st runner up. 6th grader Mila Sapp, daughter of Joey and Lindsey Sapp, walked away with the Interview award and People's Choice award. 6th grader, Citlaly Hernandez Ramirez, daughter of Daniel and Marisela Hernandez, was voted by her fellow contestants to receive the Miss Congeniality award. Congratulations to our beautiful girls! We are very proud to call you our CMS Tigers!
2nd grade enjoyed making ice cream in a bag today! They have been learning about solids, liquids, and gases. They watched the liquid turn into a solid by cooling it. 🍦

Students in Mrs. Kirby’s class learned how to use glue and shaving cream to make “toothpaste”! They had so much fun learning how to care for their teeth.
Pre-K students enjoyed giving their bus drivers muffins this morning for Bus Driver Appreciation Week.

Students in Ms. Adams's 6th Grade Career Awareness class are learning how important communication and collaboration is - especially in the workplace. Students worked with a partner to complete a maze. One partner completed the maze with their eyes closed while the other partner gave them directions on completing the maze.
Student Ayden Brewton said, "Teamwork is important in the workplace because you will always have to work with somebody. You will almost never be working alone and you will always be communicating and collaborating with somebody. Like in a business place you will have to talk to your boss, or if you're the boss, you have to speak to your employees. If someone is unable to work with others they might not be as successful as those that can work with others."
