Mr. Phillip Sapp was surprised to be recognized as WTOC Top Teacher! It is not a surprise to his students and co-workers at Claxton Middle School. Mr. Sapp goes above and beyond to actively involve his students in hands-on activities, engaging discussions, and fun projects! One of his 8th graders, Reese Killebrew, nominated him for this award. In his nomination form, Reese described Mr. Sapp as being the best teacher. Reese referred to Claxton Middle School as being family and "Mr. Sapp plays a big role in holding this family together." Ms. McDowell, principal of CMS, affirmed that the CMS family "is very proud to have Mr. Sapp. He provides meaningful and engaging lessons through Project Based Learning, which promotes an active learning environment for students." Reese stated that Mr. Sapp supports him and other students by attending athletic events and helping them understand content in other classes. Congratulations, Mr. Sapp!

8th graders were in for a surprise when they visited the CMS media center for books today. Students who were done with all assignments were able to use the new virtual reality headsets. The new headsets are serving as a way to motivate students and reward students for good academic effort. Students who are invited to play are part of an ongoing game challenge, and the highest 10 scores will stay posted on the CMS TV announcements for all students to see.

Regarding the CHS Football game at Jenkins County on September 23, 2022 at 7:30pm. PLEASE NOTE: The Jenkins County School System, working with law enforcement officials, has implemented a Clear Bag Policy at Roy Head Stadium and the Jenkins County Schools Performance Gym. While we encourage fans to not bring any type of bags, outlined below is what will be permissible to carry into the stadium should a bag be necessary: Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” Or One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”), with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium. Fans can still carry items such as binoculars, smart phones, tablets, and camera, so long as they are not in a bag or carrying case. Seat cushions – no wider than 16” will still be permitted into the venues. Upon entry of Roy Head Stadium and the JCSS Performance Gym for any event, all patrons will be required to enter through Metal Detectors monitored by law enforcement.

ECCSS would like to thank our local law enforcement agencies for conducting a Concentrated Patrol of our school bus routes this morning. These patrols are proactive safety measures to ensure we are able to transport our students in a safe and reliable manner. Please remember when a school bus is stopped on a road with its lights on and sign out, in most cases, vehicles traveling in BOTH directions MUST STOP. Please see the graphic below for more information about the law. We ask for and appreciate the public’s help in following these bus safety rules. We appreciate all you do to exercise caution and to keep our Tigers and our community safe!
