This week, our students are being served Kishu Mandarin Oranges from MJ Family Farm in Glennville. The Evans County Schools School Nutrition program is participating in the Local Food to Schools Program again this school year. This program provides funds for participating school nutrition programs to purchase food directly from Georgia Farmers.

🎨🖌️✨ Our talented CMS art students transformed skeletons into beautiful, vibrant sugar skulls in honor of Día de los Muertos! 💀🌸 These stunning creations made a special appearance at the Hinesville Cars and Coffee Club Halloween celebration 🎃🚗, and we're thrilled to announce that they won a trophy for being in the top 30 favorites! 🏆🎉 Ms. Amber Johnson, CMS Art teacher stated, "I’m so proud of the creativity and hard work my students put into this project, and it was heartwarming to see so many smiles 😊 as parents snapped photos 📸 of their kids with the Day of the Dead skeletons. Gracias to everyone who supported and celebrated this beautiful tradition with us!" 🌹🕯️💖

The DEN's newly formed book club met this week! Participants read and discussed A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson! Some key themes explored: 🔍 True Crime Parallel – We drew a connection to a real-life case, discussing how the novel's storyline mirrors a true crime mystery. 🏙 The Role of Setting – The small-town atmosphere added a layer of suspense, reminding us of how a tight-knit community can impact a mystery and keep secrets buried just beneath the surface. 👩‍🦱👨‍🦱 Teens Doing the Heavy Lifting – We admired how Pip and her friends take on the role of “amateur detectives.” Be on the look out for the announcement of our book club's next selection and meeting date!

🎃📚 Red Ribbon Week and Dress-Up Day Reminders! 📚🎃 Get ready to celebrate dress-up fun during Red Ribbon Week (RRW) next week! Our RRW team has planned a fun set of activities, and we invite our students, staff, and our community to participate to demonstrate their commitment to being drug-free! Please keep in mind all next week that students should follow ECCSS Dress-Up Guidelines! For example, on October 31, students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters, but please keep the following guidelines in mind: 👗 Costume Guidelines: Costumes must not interfere with learning—no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision. No violent or suggestive costumes. No accessories or props that could be used as weapons (e.g., water pistols, knives, or swords). ALL costume preparations must be done at home (no dressing up or applying makeup/colored hairspray at school). Makeup and face paint are allowed. Appropriate shoes must be worn. Costumes should not be offensive or inappropriate in any way. 🎺🎉 Claxton Tigers Black and Gold 🎉🎺 On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the band traveled to Warner Robins, GA, to compete in the Heart of Georgia Invitational. 🥁🎶 The ensemble showed out with a Superior rating in Drum Major, Colorguard, and Percussion, and an Excellent rating in Overall Band! 🙌✨ 🏆 The students took home First in Class in all four categories: Drum Major 🎵 Colorguard 💃 Percussion 🥁 Overall Band 🎺🎷 Mr. Maurice Burney, Color Guard Director, shared that this is the first time in several years that the band has taken first in all categories at a competition! 🎉 Next up, they’ll be traveling to Statesboro this Saturday to compete in the East Georgia Marching Championships. 🚀 Georgia Reads & Read-A-Thon Kickoff! 📚🍕 We kicked off our Georgia Reads event on Monday, October 21st, by watching Malcolm Mitchell’s Georgia Reads presentation, and it also marked the launch of our Read-A-Thon! 🎉 The Read-A-Thon runs from October 21st to November 22nd! 🏫 During independent reading time, class read-alouds, or media center sessions, teachers can log minutes for their whole class easily. Parents can also log minutes at home by creating an account for their child. 🏆 At the end of the month, the class with the most minutes in each grade will win an off-campus lunch! 📚🎉 CMS 8th Graders Participate in TEEN MAZE! 🎉📚 On Wednesday, October 23rd, CMS 8th grade students had the valuable opportunity to experience TEEN MAZE—a unique and interactive learning event aimed at helping them navigate important life choices, sponsored by Evans County Family Connections, led by Mrs. Kristy Mock and Ms. Ambi Bess. The event kicked off on Tuesday evening, October 22nd, with a Community Night where parents previewed a sample of what their children would experience. The next day, students began with a powerful party scene and crash demonstration, performed by the CHS Drama Team, led by Mr. Maurice Burney. From there, students rotated through various educational stations covering crucial topics like: 👉 Gangs Affiliations 👉 Sexual Behavior 👉 Life & Loss 👉 Social Media & Internet Safety 👉 Abusive Behavior 👉 Financial Planning 👉 Substance Abuse and Vaping 👉 Artificial Intelligence 👉 Self-Worth After the rotations and lunch, the students were inspired by a moving talk from guest speaker Allena McCoy, who bravely shared her journey from drug addiction to recovery. 🙌 We at CMS hope that our students will take these valuable lessons and use them to make wise decisions as they grow into successful, productive citizens.
